Mayor Imamović said that this 8th March 2010 would be remembered as a day of a dream come true, that has been dreamed for long 25 years, and announced heating projects of the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases in Slavinovići, Dragadol and local communities of Bukinja and Šićki Brod. “This month, we will start with realization of the project of connection of the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases UKC in Tuzla, as the second biggest air polluter in Tuzla, after the UKC Tuzla, to the district heating system. After that, we will start with heating of Dragadol in the middle part of the city with funds of Elektroprivreda BiH, as well as in the Western part of the city, in the local community Bukinje and Šićki Brod”, stated Mayor of Tuzla, filled with optimism, thanking to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the UNDP for partnership and trust. Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Sweder Ernest Joan Marie baron van Voorst tot Voorst understands a strong desire and the need of the municipal government to realize such and similar projects for which the administration of Tuzla is qualified and for which they own knowledge, desire and will. “The Embassy of the Netherlands is truly aware of your desires and needs for clean air and I am truly happy that we can finish part of the project – connection of the hospital to the district heating. We hope that public awareness about environmental protection will increase and that municipalities in the FBIH and RS will increase awareness about protection of the environment”, stated, among other things, the Ambassador of the Netherlands in BiH. This is a regional project of the UNDP for the Western Balkans, where top priorities in protection of the environment were searched for. “The very fact that, at the moment when the UNDP was looking for top priorities in BiH, Tuzla had a completed Local Environmental Plan, which helped for Tuzla and Ugljevik to be chosen as cities in which this project would be developed. Tuzla has done the homework on time and managed to apply and get funds for this project”, stated Zumreta Jahić of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Around seven million KM will be invested in expansion of the heating network for about 200,000 square meters. A fifth of the funds were provided by the Municipality of Tuzla and the rest by the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, UNDP and Elektroprivreda of BiH.
